Computer generated, photo-realistic
illustration is a very effective way to produce both interior and exterior
architectural renderings.
Illustrations are produced by constructing the
building, three-dimensionally, in the computer and then assigning materials
to it. The computer calculates light and shadows, materials, transparency
and reflections, etc. The building can then be viewed as with a camera
from any position in space, with any lens (wide-angle to telephoto). The
image is then processed in either three- point or two-point perspective as
would be used by many architectural photographers.
Once a building is in the computer, it can be
reprocessed with different material finishes (see office building and
kitchen illustrations) or with different lighting (see duplex home
illustrations) or from a different view point. The location of the
building, date and time can all be specified and the computer will place
the sun in the proper position and calculate the shadows accordingly.
